About Us
I love to stitch and am excited to run Heirloom Stitching, even though it is you, the customer, doing the needlework displayed on this site! I’ve been doing counted cross-stitch and embroidery for a LOT of years and enjoy working on linen, evenweave and Aida. The possibilities are endless for creating custom counted-cross stitch patterns. Recent customers have requested charts of race cars, dogs, cats, a model helicopter in flight, houses, and loved ones. Take a look at what your fellow cross-stitchers have done on our SAMPLES page. Customers have asked about interpreting a child’s drawn artwork into thread. Line art translates nicely into a charted design and is a wonderful way to preserve the color and energy produced by beloved young hands. Charted designs also work from other artistic media--this heart pattern is from a small watercolor that my mom did last year. I’ve also begun creating charted patterns for counted needlepoint on 22-count canvasa grid is a grid and I love to play with threaded needles. 22-count needlepoint canvas, by the way, is not as difficult as it sounds. The threads are small, but the holes are big enough for middle-aged eyes and a needle with four strands of floss provides nice coverage on the canvas. The advantage of counted cross-stitch is that there are beautiful fabrics available today, some hand-painted, that act as a lovely backdrop so that you do not need to stitch the background. With needlepoint, the background really should be completely filled in. I hope that you enjoy stitching your chart from Heirloom Stitching as much as I did in creating it for you. How may I help you turn a cherished photograph into an heirloom cross-stitch pattern? Betsy Smullen, Heirloom Stitching |
